The first open-world Star Wars game is set to arrive in 2024.
The Star Wars Outlaws release date might be quite a while away yet, but that won't stop us from devouring every conceivable piece of information about the new Ubisoft open-world game.
Star Wars Outlaws is the next major video game release from Lucasfilm Games, seeing the studio partner with Ubisoft for the first-ever open-world game set in a galaxy far, far away.
Set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the game tells an original story. Everything so far looks pretty great, though, so hopefully it delivers.

Developed by Massive Entertainment – best known for Tom Clancy's The Division and the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – Star Wars Outlaws has a lot of pedigree behind it. We can't wait to see more.

When is the Star Wars Outlaws release date?
At the time of writing, the Star Wars Outlaws release date is set for sometime in 2024. No specific release date has been given as of yet but we'd expect it to fall in the latter half – Ubisoft likes to release its major games around the October/November period.
That's just speculation since Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launched in April 2023, so it is possible to go earlier. But for that very same reason, we think Ubisoft will want to wait for the conversation to die down for Jedi: Survivor before really getting Outlaw to markets.
Another reason why it could land during the Winter period is that Assassin's Creed has a 5th October 2023 release date, a time period that Outlaws could fall in for 2024.
Plus, Ubisoft is said to have delayed a 'large game' to the next fiscal year, which would definitely place it in the latter half of 2024.

Can I pre-order Star Wars Outlaws?
Pre-orders for Star Wars Outlaws are now available at GAME for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Naturally, Xbox Series S players won't be able to purchase a physical copy with the console digital only.
We're still awaiting the likes of Amazon and CDKeys to put up their pre-order pages, likely to happen sometime in 2024 as the game's release nears.
Until then, we'll just have to dream about the potential box art and imagine what the pre-order bonuses might be. What fun.
What consoles/platforms is Star Wars Outlaws coming out on?
Ubisoft has confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC, with Ubisoft Connect being its official PC launcher of choice for obvious reasons.
There's been no mention of PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch in any of the official press materials, so it looks like Star Wars Outlaws is current-gen only... at least for its release. If you want to play this game at launch, you will need a modern games system.

Star Wars Outlaws gameplay and story details
Star Wars Outlaws is set after The Empire Strikes Back but before Return of the Jedi. The story sees you play as Kay Vess (voiced by Humberly González), described as a "cunning scoundrel" who with her loyal companion, Nix (Dee Bradley Baker of Star Wars: The Bad Batch), will attempt to make one of the greatest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen. An enforcer droid called ND-5 (who the internet is already obsessed with) will appear as a supporting character.
The game will be a single-player third-person action adventure with stealth, open combat and space combat. Branching dialogues will also be included in some form.
Ubisoft premiered the first official gameplay for Star Wars Outlaws in June 2023. It shows Kay Vess Nix escaping the empire by foot and Speeder with some space travel thrown in there too. It's looking very promising. See it for yourself below:
