The Mandalorian season 4: Release date speculation, cast and latest news
The Mandalorian and Din Grogu are back in business as the fourth run of the series is in development.
Despite only just coming back into our lives, The Mandalorian season 3 has come to a close.
The newly reunited Din Djarin, aka The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu, aka Baby Yoda, went on to some amazing adventures in the third run.
The stakes were even higher this time around, with Djarin returning to Mandalore to repent for his "transgressions".
Meanwhile, even though he left his Jedi training in The Book of Boba Fett, Grogu used even more of his powers than ever this season.
Also joining Pascal for the third run was Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze - now in a leading role alongside Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito as the villainous Moff Gideon, Amy Sedaris as the helpful Peli Motto, Carl Weathers as the High Magistrate Greef Karga, and Emily Swallows returns as the creepy but wise Armorer.
Of course, events built towards a divisive season 3 finale, but we were fans of the big climactic episode.
Naturally, we have The Mandalorian season 3 ending explained for you, but is this the end of Din Djarin and Grogu's story?
But will the story continue beyond season 3? Read on for everything you need to know about The Mandalorian season 4.

When will The Mandalorian season 4 be released?
The Mandalorian season 4 is expected to be released in 2024.
There's no official release date for The Mandalorian season 4 just yet. While there was only a year between seasons 1 and 2 of the show, the pandemic caused a big delay for season 3, resulting in a three-year gap.
In the meantime, Star Wars fans were treated to The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor.
Considering season 4 is already being written, we could see Disney Plus reverting to the original schedule and setting a 2024 release date.
Will there be a season 4 of The Mandalorian?
Yes, The Mandalorian will return for a fourth season.
Although Disney Plus hasn't officially announced it, showrunner Jon Favreau confirmed last year that he was already working on season 4 of the series way before season 3 was ever released.
He explained that Dave Filoni's writing for Ahsoka, which is coming this year, actually informed what he was working on.
The writer told CinemaBlend: "With television, we're very lucky that we don't have to rush things through into an hour-and-a-half, two hours. We get to tell stories slowly.
"So now, as Dave [Filoni]'s doing Ahsoka, it's very much informing the writing that I'm doing for [The Mandalorian] season 4. It becomes – how should I put it – more precise."
The two series, along with Skeleton Crew, are expected to build to a cinematic film directed by Dave Filoni.
What could the plot be for The Mandalorian season 4?
The third season of The Mandalorian ended with Din Djarin escaping the clutches of Moff Gideon with help from Grogu and the Mandalorians successfully retaking Mandalore from the Imperial Remnants.
Moff Gideon appeared to perish in the explosion caused by the fallen flagship, but who knows if he will return?
Meanwhile, Din formally adopted Grogu as "Din Grogu" and retired to his homestead on Nevarro and plans to take up Captain Carson Terva by completing honourable missions for the New Republic.
Variety penned that the series will return to a style akin to the first run: "A series of one-off adventures in which a lone gunman and his resplendently adorable child explore the galaxy and tussle with bad guys. "
So, it seems that Bo-Katan and her people will remain on Mandalore while we follow Din on new missions - likely against other members of the Shadow Council - could we see Commandant Brendol Hux or Captain Gilad Pellaeon again?
Plot threads to pick up, therefore, include Din Djarin and Din Grogu's adventures on Nevarro and with the New Republic - opening us up to "adventures of the week" that occurred in the first season, while we could also see the trials and tribulations of the Mandalorians establishing themselves back on Mandalore with their regent Bo-Katan.
The Shadow Council remains out there too and will likely be an antagonistic presence in further Star Wars television series.
As, from Favreau's comments, it seems Ahsoka will set up The Mandalorian season 4 - so will be essential viewing for any Mando fans before building to Dave Filioni's event film.
The Mandalorian has mentioned the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn multiple times now and he is due to make a live-action debut in Ahsoka later this year. Could he be the central antagonist of Feloni's film?
Who will star in The Mandalorian season 4?
We expect numerous members of the recurring cast of The Mandalorian will return for the fourth season.
These would include:
- Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian/Din Djarin
- Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze
- Din Grogu
- Carl Weathers as Greef Karga
- Emily Swallows as The Armorer
- Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto
- Katy M O'Brian as Elia Kane
- Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Captain Carson Teva
- Simon Kassianides as Axe Woves
- Mercedes Varnado as Koska Reeves
- Tim Meadows as Colonel Tuttle
It is unknown if Pascal or Sackhoff will each appear a bit less in the fourth season now that Din and Bo-Katan have gone their separate ways. Djarin has left for a new role helping the New Republic and has settled on Nevarro, while Kryze has been restored to her role as Regent of Mandalore and remains there with her followers and the Children of the Watch.

Discussing a potential return with Radio Times, Pascal commented: "It’s a mystery. There’s such preciousness around even saying that I’m signed up for season 4 if it’s already written. I’m naturally a blabbermouth, but I really get protective of it, because I get a thrill out of the surprises that are in store for the audience. And I don’t want the likes of you to ruin it for everybody by answering your questions. This is all going to go into print, so this banter… it’s not really going to translate very well."
We're sure we will see more of them all, though!
One we won't see again is Paz Vizsla, played by Tait Fletcher and voiced by Jon Favreau, after the mighty Mandalorian warrior was killed by Moff Gideon's Praetorian Guards in the penultimate episode of the season.
However, we will still be likely to see The Armorer, Axe Woves, Koska Reeves, Ragnar Vizsla and more Mandalorians following their return home.
One of the more ambiguous character statuses has to be whether we will see Giancarlo Esposito again as Moff Gideon as he appeared to perish in the third season finale. However, we have yet to see his body, meaning the possibility of a return from Din's arch-enemy remains.
Of course, there is the chance other characters from across the Star Wars universe could appear, including Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett, Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand, and Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano.
Additionally, characters yet to be introduced in the series Skeleton Crew could also appear, including the Jedi knight set to be portrayed by Jude Law.
Finally, the series has also teased the arrival of Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn who is confirmed to be appearing in Ahsoka later this year.
